It must have been a slow day...

Pitiful, just pitiful. It must have been a slow day for cops in Denver.

A Friend's Blog

If you get a chance, check out a friend of mine's blog. Like me, she is a member of FATSE (Former ATS Employee.) I can honestly say that she, along with another friend of mine, Karen, are two of the reasons I was reasonably successful at starting up the number of sites I did at my former job.

Check it out, it is worth a read. Plus, the title of the blog is kinda funny: NojobTara

Trusting Politicians

Wow, I would have thought the number would have been closer to 99.99999%! 73% Trust Judgment of People More Then Politicians

Snoring wakes up baby

I have friends like this!

Hard to feel sorry for some people

Yeah, I know this sounds bad, but it is hard for me to give a "you know what" when a guy who just signed a contract for $2 mil tells the world he is almost broke Scott Eyre is the latest ballplayer to admit he's almost broke

Because he is a professional athlete, and his problem is due to the ongoing Stanford Ponzi scheme, I am going to state for the record that this guy can call the bank and get a break on his bills.

I am in complete disagreement with the writer of the article. I don't know, maybe I should care, but with lots of hard working people who have lost everything due to no fault of their own, I just have a hard time mustering up the energy to care about a bunch of spoiled rotten, greedy millionaires who are having a hard time for the next several days until their issues get resolved, especially when there are people who may NEVER recover financially from their set backs.

Times are tough all over

I know the feeling... Jobless ex-con asks for more prison time

US Troops to exit Iraq

Gift

I received a very nice surprise gift along with a card today from my sister Sandy and her friend Lawana who live in Florida. I really appreciate the fact that she took the time to send it along with a card, as it sure made my day!

Although I never really thought of myself as sarcastic, just misunderstood by the general population. But then again, I try and remember that at any one point in time almost 50% of the world's population is below average...

Thanks for the thoughts and gift, Sandy and Lawana!

Irony

This is the pot calling the kettle black: Obama warns mayors not to waste stimulus

I like the irony of the situation on several levels. First, anyone who follows the federal government knows that it is an organization which appears to exist for no other purpose then to waste our money. So Obama threatening to "call out" mayors who appear to waste the stimulus money is the very definition of irony! Second, unless you as a taxpaying citizen receive a direct benefit from the stimulus package, then the federal government is "wasting" your hard-earned dollars!

Anyway, the stimulus package is approved and on its way. Too bad by most accounts (including the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office) it will be several years before the vast majority of the population will start to feels its affects.

Just in time for the next election... (or would that be too ironic?)

California's crisis

I have been following the budget crisis in California with some morbid interest. It does "help" to see that Michigan isn't the only state suffering during these times. The first thought I had when reading the CNN story California can't solve budget crisis about the 10,000 plus employees that will be laid off is: Why aren't the lawmakers who can not seem to EVER solve this issue among the 10,000?

I read with bemusement how the legislators brought blankets and toothbrushes and "planned to stay as long as it took to pass a budget" but yet were unable to do so. In most of the country, the inability to do WHAT YOU ARE PAID TO DO will get you fired, but in politics it is business as usual.

Fire them, and replace them with people who will do the job they are getting paid to do. We need to quit accepting sub-standard performance as the "norm," and quit saying "oh, well, that is politics."

It is not politics, it is people's lives that are affected. And I am not just talking about the employees being laid off, I am talking about the citizens who are supposed to receive the service that was provided by the laid off employees. Do you think California (or any state political body for that matter) will refund the difference back to its citizens? If you or I go to a place of business, pay for a service and don't receive it, we demand our money back.

Lets start demanding our money back for sub-standard performance. Remember, it is OUR money, not the government's regardless of what they tell you.

A Lesson

Today's post is a little darker then I normally write, so I hope you will bear with me.

If you get a chance, read Laura Berman's column on detnews.com; jobless, facing eviction, a Detroiter checks out.

We all need to remember that when a person loses his/her job, it not only takes a toll financially, but mentally and emotionally as well. Especially when the job loss comes unexpectedly. I can only write from a man's perspective, but regardless of what your thoughts are about women in the workplace, a man still oftentimes defines himself in terms of his job and his role as the "breadwinner" in the family. And a job loss can have a significant impact on his psyche. As the article states, the older a man is, the more likely it is that a job loss will affect his emotional state.

I am not suggesting that every person who loses their job is in danger of suicide, but I will go out on a limb and say that it will affect their emotional well-being. So if you know someone who has lost their job, keep the article in mind and be aware of it will ya? A phone call or a visit might be just the thing to help them out at this period in their lives when they need to know that they are not alone.

We are our brother's keeper.

Oh, and in case you are wondering if this post is an any way quasi-autobiographical, I can assure you it is not. Thoughts of suicide have never entered my mind. Homicide, yes, on a far more regular basis then I would care to admit (especially behind the wheel of my car...)

Interesting Web Site

Check it out if you get a chance. I received the link from a friend of mine and thought I would pass it on. The song has some truths in it, but it is a little too uplifting for a cynical jack a*s like myself...

Update: It appears the link may be hard to find on my original post so here it is: Interesting Web Site

Illegal Immigration

If you want to know what is screwed up with this country, check out the story on the Arizona rancher being sued by illegals.

I am trying to figure out just what he did wrong.

Let's see; they trespassed on his property, he held them until he could turn them over to the proper authorities (which he did), and what is third point, oh yeah, they are ILLEGAL. He has stopped over 12,000 illegals (turning them over to the border patrol) since 1998 so I firmly believe this is nothing more then a publicity stunt by MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund) and should be treated as such. But unfortunately, exploiting this politically sensitive issue will (hopefully) undoubtedly backfire on them for the reasons I listed above but this poor man will have to go through hell until the case is resolved.

In case you are wondering, I am not a rabid anti-immigration person. I firmly believe in LEGAL immigration. We all came to America (whether willingly or unwillingly) including the American Indian (who transited from Asia over the land bridge during the last ice age) from somewhere else, and I think our nation is stronger because of it. I am not to the first to state that our differences make our nation unique among all other nations and I would hate to lose that uniqueness.

But suing American CITIZENS on behalf of ILLEGALS to bring immigration issues to light is just freakin' wrong.

Lousiana Politics (NSFW)

Louisiana elected a leader of the KKK (David Duke,) why not a p**n star? I hope she runs, it will make for interesting news...

Gran Torino

My wife and I went to see Gran Torino starring Clint Eastwood. We both loved it. It was one of the best movies I have seen in a while and I would highly recommend it. I did not realize it would be as funny as it was. Great movie, great plot. One suggestion: get there early. Gran Torino has been out for a while, so I was surprised that the theater was completely sold out.

Tigers

At least I will have something to do while looking for a job... Every Tiger game on TV

Hacking Road Signs

Kinda funny: Road Sign Hacking: Velociraptors Now Hunting Drivers on Indiana Roads

Granholm's State of the State Address

I like it: Granholm proposes "green" initiatives.

If we don't do something to wean our state off its dependence on the Big Three, we are doomed to continue the downward spiral. The engineers, etc graduating from U of M, MSU, WSU, etc need an industry with a future or they will "vote with their feet" and leave the state and we don't need the brain drain.

Plus, as a former actor (read "extra) on the TV show "Jag" (the episode was named "Tiger, Tiger" look for the back of my head [twice] in the opening scene) I think it would be way cool to shoot some movies right here in our back yard...

Super Bowl Ad

I love this ad!

Wii and Crime

Funny, this looks like some of my family and friends that have created their own Mii Japanese police seek Mii in hit-and-run

Detroit Lions

Man, does the hate run deep in this city for Matt Millen

Wal-Mart

Interesting. Not what I have always heard about working at Wal-Mart. Wonder if they are hiring?

Kwame

So Kwame Kilpatrick is out of jail and heading to Texas. Although his lawyer states that Kilpatrick is is not bitter but may still consider a lawsuit...

I say enough already Kwame. You have already cost me (as a taxpayer) $12.8 million because you can not exercise any self-control. Please just go away.

Winter Thoughts

Amen: Things I won't miss when winter's over

Michael Phelps

Wonder how much this is going to cost him in endorsements? Criminal charge weighed for Phelps

Of course we have a history in this country of allowing athletes to break the law and nothing happens other then a slap on the wrist.
